My professional career spanned over thirty years working in municipal finance. I served in various roles with the City of Columbus, where I worked on everything from water, sewer and electric rate setting and proforma analysis to labor negotiation support. In the ten years prior to my retirement in 2010, I was Budget Manager for the City of Dublin, Ohio. This job entailed preparing the City’s annual operating and capital budgets, and managing the City’s biennial cost of services study. One of my favorite tasks, and one of which I am proud was providing financial expertise to the team that developed Dublin’s “ Healthy by Choice” program, which has since been recognized for its innovative approach to integrated health benefits and wellness initiatives and has proven to both improve the health status of Dublin employees and hold the line on the cost of employee benefits.
In 2014 my municipal finance expertise resulted in my appointment to the Citizens’ Financial Review Task Force, a six-month endeavor that resulted in the ultimate passage of Issue 23, an income tax increase for Upper Arlington devoted to improving our community.
I am an Arts lover although not an artist. I served as member of the UA Cultural Arts Commission for two terms, including serving as chair for two years. I also served as Beautification Administrator for the Upper Arlington Community Foundation, working to enhance the appearance of public spaces in Upper Arlington through partnerships with volunteers, residents and community-based and non-profit agencies. We frequently attend musical performances in the Columbus area, notably of the Columbus Jazz Orchestra. I express my creative side in my kitchen – where I love to cook either for two or for a crowd.
In 2011, I became qualified to judge women’s gymnastics – following many years as a gym parent with our daughter. It’s a lot harder than it looked from the bleachers!
I am an Upper Arlington graduate, and I went on to attain a Bachelor of Arts from Miami University and a Master of Arts in Public Administration from the Ohio State University.
I have been married to Tom Hoyle for over 37 years. We have two children: Pat, 34 (UA Class of 2001), who is married to Kristin and lives in Brooklyn, New York with our first grandchild, one-year old Felicity; and Caroline, 31 (UA Class of 2004), who is married to John and lives in San Francisco, California.
